Working with earth-based medicines is quite different from working with pharmaceuticals. While modern medicine has an important place in our world and has helped countless people, earth-based medicines invite us into a different kind of relationship, one rooted in connection, curiosity, and respect for the intelligence of nature.

When people begin microdosing, it’s common to approach it with a specific goal in mind. Maybe they’re hoping to feel more focused, more creative, more energized, or simply better than they do today. While these intentions can be helpful, one of the beautiful things about working with mushrooms is that they often meet us where we are rather than where we think we should be.
At Mycology Psychology, we offer different blends that each have their own tendencies and qualities, yet the relationship that develops with the medicine is often more important than any outcome we’re hoping to achieve. Over time, many people discover that microdosing is less about getting somewhere and more about learning how to listen.

In a world that constantly asks us to do more, achieve more, and process more, many of us are carrying levels of stress, stimulation, and exhaustion that our nervous systems were never designed to hold. Sometimes we come to microdosing looking for a boost, only to find that the medicine is inviting us toward something entirely different. Instead of pushing harder, it may encourage us to rest. Instead of speeding up, it may ask us to slow down. Instead of looking outward for answers, it may gently guide us back toward ourselves.
This is why education and support are such an important part of our work. The intention we bring to these medicines matters, not because it guarantees a particular outcome, but because it shapes the quality of the relationship we are building. Right relationship is less about controlling the experience and more about learning to engage with it consciously.

When we approach earth-based medicines with respect, patience, and a willingness to listen, they can become powerful allies for growth and self-discovery. Not because they do the work for us, but because they remind us of the wisdom that already exists within us.
As you continue on your path, whatever season of life you find yourself in, may you remember to move with intention, trust your own experience, and stay open to the lessons that emerge along the way.
